STLCC Volleyball Advances to Central District Tournament After Strong Region 16 Performance
St. Louis Community College (STLCC) Volleyball is headed to the Central District Tournament after finishing as runner-up in the Region 16 Volleyball Tournament. The Archers secured their spot with a commanding 3-0 victory over East Central College on October 31, before falling in a hard-fought four-set match to Metropolitan Community College on November 1.
STLCC Sweeps East Central College in Straight Sets
In their opening match of the Region 16 Tournament, STLCC showcased dominance with set scores of 25-22, 25-21, and 26-24. Sydney Green led the offensive charge with 11 kills and a .206 hitting percentage, while Ava Chase orchestrated the attack with 31 assists. Defensively, Reese Gray anchored the back row with 14 digs, and the team combined for eight block assists to stifle East Central's offense.
Metropolitan Community College Edges STLCC in Four-Set Thriller
In the Region 16 Championship match, STLCC battled Metropolitan Community College in a tightly contested four-set match (23-25, 23-25, 25-20, 21-25). Sydney Green once again led STLCC with 17 kills, while Presley Vangaasbeek and Ava Chase contributed offensively and defensively. However, STLCC's .072 hitting percentage fell short against Metropolitan's .185.
Despite the loss, STLCC's performance earned them a spot in the Central District Tournament, where they will compete for a chance to advance to the NJCAA National Championship.
"We're incredibly proud of what this team has accomplished," said Head Coach Hunsue Park, in his first season leading the Archers. "Advancing to the Central District Tournament is a testament to their hard work, growth, and commitment to each other. We've faced adversity and responded with heart. I'm excited to see how far we can go."
