Archers Softball Sweeps Region 16 Rival Mineral Area College
The St. Louis Community College Archers softball team earned an impressive Region 16 doubleheader sweep over Mineral Area College on Tuesday afternoon at STLCC, edging the Cardinals 5–4 in Game 1 before rolling to an 11–0 victory in Game 2.
Game 1: STLCC 5, Mineral Area College 4
The opener was a tightly contested battle, with the Archers using timely hitting and strong pitching down the stretch to secure the win.
Mineral Area jumped out early with four runs in the first three innings, but STLCC answered with a decisive four-run third inning to take control. Paige Glasgow sparked the rally with an RBI double, and Tataum Peery delivered the game-changing hit with a two-run home run.
STLCC totaled eight hits, with Glasgow, Peery, and Rylie Fisher each driving in runs. Reese Kieso, Natalie Jensen, Emily Newman, and Lakota Vincent also recorded hits, and Kieso added a stolen base.
Riley Jo Fendler earned the win in the circle, improving to 6–3 after allowing four runs (one earned) over four innings. Celia Gildehaus shut the door in relief, tossing three hitless innings with four strikeouts to earn her first save of the season.
Game 2: STLCC 11, Mineral Area College 0 (5 innings)
The Archers carried their momentum into the nightcap, erupting for 10 runs in the first two innings on their way to an 11–0, five-inning victory.
Riley Jo Fendler continued her standout day with a bases-clearing triple, finishing with five RBIs. Paige Glasgow added to the offensive surge with a three-run home run, while Tataum Peery contributed two RBIs. Natalie Jensen added an RBI and a sacrifice fly.
Reese Kieso went 2-for-3 with two runs scored, and Lakota Vincent chipped in a hit and a stolen base as STLCC collected nine hits in the win.
Kenzie Griswold was dominant in the circle, striking out eight in five innings to move to 8–2 on the season while holding Mineral Area to just one run on three hits.
Following the sweep, Head Coach Kristi Swiderski praised her team's resilience and competitive response.
"I was proud of how our team bounced back after a tough start in the first game," Swiderski said. "This group stays composed, trusts each other, and keeps pressing forward no matter the situation. That mindset showed up in all phases today, and it really set the tone for the rest of the doubleheader."
With the Region 16 sweep, the Archers continue to build momentum in region play with a 4-0 record, showcasing depth, power, and poise as the season progresses.
The Archers are back in action at home on Friday, April 3rd. When they will take on Southeastern Community College starting at 2:00 PM.
