Archers Advance to Region 16 Final with 2-0 Victory
In a decisive Region 16 semifinal match held on October 28, 2025, St. Louis Community College's Archers secured their spot in the final with a commanding 2-0 win over St. Charles Community College. The match showcased grit, discipline, and standout individual performances.
After a tightly contested first half that ended scoreless, the Archers found their rhythm in the second half, led by forward Joao Victor Gonzaga. Gonzaga broke the deadlock in the 47th minute with an unassisted goal off a corner kick and later sealed the win with another solo effort in the 87th minute, demonstrating composure under pressure.
St. Charles Community College's defense, anchored by goalkeeper Karolis Zukauskas, held firm for much of the match, saving four of six shots on goal. However, Gonzaga's clinical finishing proved too much. On the other end, St. Louis goalkeeper Antonin Louis Didier delivered a solid performance, saving both shots on goal and maintaining a clean sheet.
Statistically, the Archers dominated with ten shots on goal and four corner kicks, compared to eight shots and zero corners from St. Charles. Despite committing 13 fouls, St. Louis Community College's tactical execution and defensive resilience carried them to victory.
"The team stuck to the game plan from start to finish," said Head Coach Ricardo Garza. "Our defensive organization was key today. Everyone stayed disciplined, and that's what secured the win. Now, we shift our focus to preparing for Mineral Area on Saturday."
This win propels the Archers into the Region 16 final on Saturday, November 1 at 2:00 pm on the STLCC Florissant Valley campus, underscoring their strength and determination as they aim for the championship title.
