Archers Defeat Rend Lake in Redemption Game
St. Louis Community College (STLCC) delivered a commanding performance at the Banterra Sports Complex, defeating Rend Lake College 81-66. The victory lifts SLCC to a 5-2 record, while Rend Lake falls to 3-4 despite a spirited second-half rally.
The Archers wasted no time asserting control, racing to a 9-2 start and closing the first half with a decisive 44-22 lead. STLCC's offensive efficiency was on full display, shooting 63.3% from the field. Sophomore guard Zac Goss led the charge with 18 first-half points, including four three-pointers, and finished with a game-high 25 points. Forward Stefan Higgins added a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds, anchoring the paint on both ends.
The Warriors fought back in the second half, outscoring SLCC 44-37. Navontae Nesbit paced Rend Lake with 15 points and a perfect 4-for-4 from the free-throw line. Elijah Edosa chipped in 13 points, while Isaac Billington provided a spark off the bench with 14 points. Despite their effort, Rend Lake's shooting woes—just 25% from beyond the arc—proved costly.
STLCC's balanced attack and defensive discipline were key, while Rend Lake excelled at the free-throw line (84.2%) but struggled to convert from deep.
"Beating Rend Lake on the road after dropping a tough 65-64 decision to them at home was a big psychological lift," said Head Coach Terry Collins. "We overcame a tendency to get tentative after building a lead. The Warriors were coming off a big win over perennial Division I power John A. Logan College, so we knew it would be a major test. We passed with contributions from everyone, including the bench."
The Archers will look to keep their momentum rolling when they host Lincoln Land Community College on Wednesday, December 3rd at 7:30 on the STLCC Forest Park Campus..
