STLCC Baseball Uses Explosive Third Inning to Defeat Southwestern Illinois College 13–9
The St. Louis Community College Archers earned a high‑scoring 13–9 road victory over Southwestern Illinois College (SWIC) on Friday afternoon, powered by a seven‑run third inning and a balanced offensive performance throughout the lineup.
SWIC struck first with a run in the opening inning, but STLCC responded quickly. The Archers plated two runs in the second before erupting for seven runs in the third, taking control of the game with an aggressive offensive surge that forced early bullpen action from the Blue Storm.
STLCC totaled 13 hits and 13 runs, with six players producing multi-hit or multi‑RBI performances.
Offensive Highlights
- Drew Schulte delivered a standout performance, finishing 3-for-6 with a double and an RBI.
- Nicholas Bonczkowski matched him with three hits, including a double and an RBI.
- Keegan Fowler blasted a three‑run home run and added a sacrifice fly, finishing with four RBI—the game's highest total.
- Jackson Reiter went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI, continuing his strong offensive stretch.
- McKinley Floyd, Bryce Haines, Jack Burle, and Keegan Fowler each drove in key runs to maintain STLCC's lead.
- Tyler Tipton reached base four times and scored twice, while Luke Seiler contributed a stolen base and a sacrifice bunt in the team-first effort.
Pitching Breakdown
Freshman Edward Ahearn earned the win in his collegiate debut, delivering 3.0 innings with just two hits allowed, one run, and four strikeouts.
Mason Carroll followed with a strong relief appearance, tossing three scoreless innings and limiting SWIC to two hits while striking out two.
SWIC attempted a comeback with a four‑run fifth inning and a three‑run eighth, but the early cushion built by the Archers' offense proved too much to overcome.
Head Coach Scott Goodrich praised both sides of the lineup for stepping up in key moments:
"I'm really proud of how our guys competed today," Goodrich said. "Our pitchers attacked the zone and gave us exactly what we needed on the mound. Offensively, we were relentless. That big third inning showed what this group is capable of when they stay disciplined and trust their approach. It was a total team win."
