Archers Take 3/4 From Nunez CC
The STLCC baseball team traveled to Chamette, LA on Saturday, February 20 and Sunday, February 21 to take on Nunez Community College in a four-game series. The Archers took three out of four against the Pelicans, with all four games finishing as high scoring affairs.
Game 1 – W – 8-3
In the opening game of the four-game set, the Archers were able to score six runs in the top of the 7th inning after being down 3-2 and defeated Nunez by a final score of 8-3.
Offensively, STLCC was led by Preston Salazar (3 hits) and Cesar Soto (2 hits). Driving in runs for the Archers were Darian Howard (2), Tyler Ferguson (1) and Blane Besse (1). Tyler Martin picked up his first win of the season, pitching seven innings and only allowing 2 runs.
Game 2 – L – 9-2
In game two, STLCC was haunted by a five run fifth inning by the Pelicans and fell to Nunez by a final of 9-2.
Preston Salazar took the loss on the mound for STLCC, pitching four innings and allowing three earned runs, while striking out seven. Offensively, the Archers got another multi-hit game from Cesar Soto. Garrison Hibbs hit his first home run of the season in the loss and Blane Besse also drove in a run for STLCC
Game 3 – W – 9-3
The Archers were able to throw up crooked numbers late to pick up the win in game three. STLCC trailed 1-0 after five innings but picked up seven runs in the 6th and two more in the 7th to win by a final of 9-3.
Garrison Hibbs had a big game at the plate for STLCC, going 1-4 with a home run and 4 RBI. Ben Collier also homered for the Archers. Also collecting RBI for STLCC were Boone Gartman (1) and Blane Besse (1). Joseph Hackman picked up the win on the mound, pitching five and one third innings, allowing three earned runs and striking out 10. Christian Harvey earned a save after throwing one and two thirds innings and allowing no hits.
Game 4 – W – 9-4
The Archers used multi run innings in the 2nd, 4th and 7th to secure the series win on Sunday.
In the series finale, STLCC got another home run from Ben Collier, who drove in 2 runs in the contest. Also having big days at the plate were Sam Bennett (2 hits, 3 RBI), Alex Adams (2 hits), Brennan Montgomery (1 hit 3RBI), and Parker Yoakum (1 RBI). Sam Feltz picked up his first win of the season on the mound, throwing four and two third innings, while allowing one earned run and collecting seven strikeouts. Drew Hansel and Harold Chirinos Coto also threw scoreless innings in relief.
With the series win at Nunez, the Archers move to 3-3 overall on the season. STLCC will return to action on Thursday, February 25 at GCS Stadium in Sauget, IL against Southwestern Illinois College.
