The St. Louis Community College women's soccer team gave a textbook example of what defense looks like on Sunday afternoon on the Meramec campus, in a 1-0 overtime victory over Kaskaskia College. The first half was evenly played, as both teams had opportunities to score but both goalies made clutch saves to keep the match deadlocked at the half. After the intermission, Kaskaskia controlled the ball most of the second half as the combination of a strong team defensive effort and the athleticism of Archer goalie Amanda Hughes, who picked up her fourth shutout of the season, perserved the zero on the scoreboard.
The Archers received the ball first in the overtime and within fifteen seconds, gained a corner opportunity. After a brief scrum in front of the net, Ellie Wallace found the right foot of sophomore Kaitlin Jennings for the game winner forty-seven seconds in the overtime.
The Archers improved to 5-4-3 on the season and return to action on Saturday at 1:00 pm to wrap up Region 16 play vs. MCC Blue River on the Meramec campus.
Mike Duffy's Bar & Grill play of the match: Kaitlin Jennings strike just fourty-seven seconds into overtime to give STLCC a 1-0 victory.
